　　A notebook originally referred to a small booklet used for recording various matters. Before the invention of writing, humans commonly employed knotting on ropes to document numbers or events and convey specific meanings, thereby transmitting information. As evidenced by surviving examples from prehistoric art—such as grid patterns in cave paintings, rope‑like motifs on pottery, and clay fishing weights—it is clear that knot‑based record‑keeping (and counting) was one of the widely used methods among early peoples.
